We have had one scene so far. One that had minimal negotiation and even less discussion about what the scene would involve. pet has learned through her studies that this is not the best for the Top or bottom. Discussion during a scene could easily disrupt the power and energy exchange during the scene. So it is best to negotiate the scene pre-scene for the best outcome for both Top and bottom.
Power/energy is the main ingredient in SM play. Most specifically the exchange of power. Doms often experience a power/energy rush, a RAW power rush during play. (Subs experience this too in a myriad of ways.) It could be vibrations, the brush of a hard cock against the thigh, or even verbal if the Dom is talkative (pet loves to be talked dirty to). If the scene is REALLY WORKING, the Dom typically experiences a feeling of being full of power and control.
